Sydney Grace Waters, the 17-year-old daughter of Joshua and Erica Waters, granddaughter of Robin and the late Billy Waters and the late Edward Laria of Johnson Bayou is currently a senior at Sulphur High School and lists the Gumbo Cook-off as her favorite fur festival event. It’s the first event on Saturday morning of the festival and when one walks in that big tent and gets a whiff of those delicious smells, it’s about to go down! 

Sydney’s hobbies include surf fishing on the beach, kayaking, exploring light houses on road trips, and learning to cook some of my mom’s favorite Cajun dishes. Sydney’s awards and honors include being a banner roll student at Sulphur High School, maintaining a 4.5 GPA. Throughout high school Sydney has been selected as Student of the Month several times, nominated twice for Student of the Year, and having won numerous awards and competitions in both BETA and Student Council. Sydney has also been presented with the Marine’s Toys for Tots Ambassador pin. 

Sydney’s future plans include attending Louisiana State University majoring in business management with a concentration in human resources hoping to secure a career in the Liquified Natural Gas Industry, right here in Cameron Parish.
